Come join us Saturday, November 19th 2016, at the Edwin Gould Academy as we watch the Netflix documentary '13th' by director Ava DuVernay. Following the screening we will discuss the movie in 3 sections and discuss Race, Class and the Prison Industry and how it effects our communities. This is a powerful documentary and we encourage all to bring a friend or mentee to come discuss these issues. Doors open at 3:00pm for seating and the movie will start at 3:30pm!

Old School vs. New School

What: DJ'ing class with Old School vs. New School music

When: Sunday May 15th 2016 11:00am

Where: Kennedy Center Auditorium

Who: For Students 13 and Over and Parents

You ever wonder why that song sounds so familiar? You recognize the beat but can’t remember where you heard it? Think of a Music history lesson and the textbooks you will be using are Turntables. In the first section of this course students will learn the fundamental skills needed to become a DJ and get hands on experience learning and using the equipment as well as techniques. Beatmatching, mixing, blending, hard cuts and scratches will be the techniques learned throughout the first half of this course. In the second half this course will dive deep into “the good ole days” of music and showcase how artist of today sample from legends. This course isalso great for kids because it gives a sneak peek into how their favorite artists create their hits! By the end of the course, both parents and kids will practice blending and matching present day hits with their sampled predecessors. Parents will finally be able to name that tune and children will think of music history in a whole new light! This class is for both students as well as parents and participation is required.

Father Fitness Camp


CALLING ALL FATHERS, BROTHERS, UNCLES, MENTORS, AND SONS! Come out and bring your kids, nieces, nephews, mentees and siblings to the FREE Father Fitness Camp on Sunday, March 6th 2016 from 12pm to 2pm. This will be a day filled with fun workouts, competitions and healthy lifestyle lessons! 

The Father Fitness Camp will be an engaging and exciting place to learn the importance of exercise with creative ways to do it, ensuring your loved ones stay active and healthy!

*All adults and youth participation is mandatory (No sideline guardians at this fit camp!). Ages 7 and up. Defense & Discipline

Discipline and defense is more than just a self defense workshop, it's two hours of pure intensity! With a personal fitness trainer and boxing coach on one side of the gym, a naval academy graduate and instructor on the other side and 20 years of boxing experience combined, this class will be nothing short of legendary!

This workshop will teach you how to defend yourself as well as the skills to push yourself to new limits! Refreshments will be provided by E Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.

This is the perfect class to get a first hand look at what it takes to be a Master of the Mix! Learn some basic scratching techniques, equipment you need and how to build up and break down a DJ set. This class is offered for youth ages 14 and up (under 14 must be with a parent), so enroll quick as space is extremely limited!
